Cap and Gown Portraits // Class of 2018

Cap and Gown Portraits // Class of 2018

Whether you’re allowed to or not, let those caps fly! (Well, at least at some point on your graduation day – get that diploma first!)  Bust out of that box that you’ve been put in. From here, things change. Shed all those high school cliche’s and stereotypes and be you – the real you. Don’t worry about what other people think. Be brave and step into the person you are called to be. Be set free. But don’t forget these times. Remember the friendships. Hold close those things your parents and teachers told you that kept you going on the straight and narrow. Keep the prize in your sights, but have fun on the journey. Enjoy the next few years! They will be some of the best of your life! Congrats to all my graduates! I love each one of you dearly!   Y’all, I can’t believe this year is over. It just keeps getting better every year. I’m sad to see this class head out to the rest of your life, but soooo excited for you! I will miss you & be praying for you. Go get...
Payton // Class of 2018 // Senior Shoot & Cap and Gown

Payton // Class of 2018 // Senior Shoot & Cap and Gown

One of the first thing’s Payton told me when we talked about her senior shoot was that she loved photography. So of course, I told her to bring her camera to her session! I loved incorporating that part of her life into her senior portraits. We were on the farm, so we had some interesting subjects (the goats weren’t very cooperative either), but we had fun grabbing some action shots. By the time, she put on those converse & her flannel, she was super comfortable being on the other side of the camera. And I may or may not have made her do some twirls, but the tire swing – that was all Payton! We got to have more fun at her cap and gown shoot a few weeks later – that cap toss is a lot harder than it looks. It’s like throwing a kite. Kris & Payton, thank you so much for choosing me to capture this special year for you! I loved getting to know you!  I hope you cherish these portraits for years to come....
Cameron’s Senior Portraits // APA 2018

Cameron’s Senior Portraits // APA 2018

Here’s a little tidbit about me. I started out as a newspaper photographer, and covered a TON of sports. Even though that’s not really what I wanted to do, I saw the stories in it, and y’all know I love stories. The action shots of the game and the passion behind why people play speak volumes. Cameron may not have had an opponent that day (his only challenge was not hitting my camera with his aces), but his focus and concentration are always there on the court & the field. It was perfect that we started the portraits out there, where he is most at home, and then headed downtown to get a little outside his comfort zone. Here’s a secret, sessions with high school guys… are a challenge I love. I love seeing them transform from stiff to at ease in front of the lens. I love to bring out the Abercrombie model in these guys who claim “they don’t like pictures” or the ones who are there for their moms. Cameron was definitely there for his mom – he’s not the kind of guy who posts selfies. He completely surprised me, though! He was up for anything. He was patient and had great ideas. He even did a jumping shot (which always end up as a favorite.) He also can do a “fake laugh” like a champ. Cameron, Jimi & Mark, I had such a fun time with y’all that day! Graduation is just a few short days away – can you believe it? Thank y’all so much for trusting me to capture this pinnacle time in...
Megan’s Rad Senior Shoot in Kinston

Megan’s Rad Senior Shoot in Kinston

One thing I love about Kinston is how many types of locations I can find for senior portraits. You want a farm, easy. Forest, field, river – check! Then there’s downtown – it is the most versatile of all. Old wooden doors give a rustic feel while modern art, murals, brick, windows & staircases give a cool urban vibe. Depending where you want to venture, there are 100’s of options. Megan wanted both farm and city, and I love how unique her senior shoot turned out. It was definitely the giant grasshoppers that brought out her true personality though 🙂 No, but really, she was much more at home in skinnies and a tee. If I had to sum her up in our time together, I’d say she’s a super smart rocker chick, and I think she’s ready to kiss high school good-bye. Megan, I had a blast with you that day! I wish you the best in all you do and can’t wait to follow along on your...
Caleb // Class of 2018 Senior Portraits

Caleb // Class of 2018 Senior Portraits

Caleb is one of the most encouraging people I know. He is super talented on stage and at the same time is quick to speak to the talent of others. He is constantly building up others and has a great outlook about life. It was a tremendous blessing to work with him this year. His love and desire to serve others is so evident in the way he treats those around him, including the kids he pours into at church. Annette & Caleb, I am so grateful that I got to know y’all a little better this year. Caleb was a tremendous blessing to me and his kind words & support helped build me up when I was having doubts. I cannot wait to see what God’s got in store for him in the next 4...
Hannah // ECU Graduation with a new puppy!

Hannah // ECU Graduation with a new puppy!

What’s better than graduating college??? Graduating college AND getting a puppy! Hannah, this new ECU Grad, is about to start her career in Health & Physical Education and I’m pretty sure she’s already got this pup on a training regimen ;). It’s been fun watching Hannah’s adventure through her high school & college years and I just can’t wait to see her blossom into an amazing teacher. I can guarantee she is going to be one of those teachers her students will never forget. One that pours into their lives and genuinely cares for them. She is the kind of teacher parents pray for! Hannah, Gayla & Tom, we love y’all and have loved getting to do life with y’all. Hannah, I just can’t wait to see what happens in the coming months. God’s got a plan and it’s been fun watching it unroll so far. Praying for you, girl!! Especially with a retriever pup! LOL! She is so much fun – and already SO...
