These are my favorite techniques for making portraits more aesthetic.

One mistake a lot of portrait photographers make constantly is to blow out the sky in their portraits. Raise your hand if that is ever you. My hand is up with you. I have plenty of portraits with the sky completely blown out. And sometimes that is unavoidable - on a gray day or when I want to use backlighting from the sun. But when you have a blue sky like the one below, you want that blue to make it through in your images. Here's how to make it happen without a flash.

Let’s talk about staying creative during quarantine without getting our hands dirty. Did you know that creativity is much more than art?! Creativity means thinking outside the box to create something new. The Latin root of the word “creative,” means “to beget, give birth to.” To me, the word innovative comes to mind. We have had to think of some new ways to keep our minds active and creative while we are stuck at home.

Whether you are bored to death or feel like you are putting out little fires everywhere, it is important to stay creative during this quarantine. Creativity, whether you are a painter or not, can lift your spirits and help you stay positive during this extended stay at home.
