Longboarding Downtown // Rustic Gas Station // Creative Portrait Session

Ideas constantly flood my mind. It is overwhelming. But every now and again I can actually bring one to life. Two ideas came together in this shoot – a longboard and this old rusty gas station I’ve driven by 100’s of times. When I found out Sydne longboards, I started putting the ideas into motion.
Sydne and I have a mutual love for downtown Kinston which made this session so authentic. We both love cruisin down the streets, her on her longboard and me in my mini van. We are proud of the artistic revitalization that is happening and the old meeting the new.
We chatted about the state of our world with Covid-19 still hanging around and the movement towards social justice. We agreed that quarantine makes it harder to work together as a community, which is something Kinston is known for. We lamented over our favorite restaurant closing its doors for good and missing people’s smiles behind the masks. We are looking forward to hugging friends in the coffee shop again.
Next week, Sydne will head to boot camp on her journey of service to our nation. I am so stinking proud of her. I have had the privilege to watch her grow up. She has matured, but she always seemed wise for her years. And that smile, it has never changed.
Sydne, I seriously cannot wait to see where God leads you. You are a shining star. Keep shining brightly.
